Enerflow Heat Pumps Water Heaters
Due to recent and on-going power supply problems experienced in South Africa, regulatory bodies have announced the use of a power ration scheme. This will result in the different markets sectors required to reduce energy consumption by a predetermined percentage, for instance 10% for the residential sector and 20% for the hospitality industry. ESKOM in collaboration with the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) and Dept of Public Enterprises (DPE), are looking at several energy efficiency programs whereby sustainable energy savings can be achieved in all the market sectors of South Africa.
One of the energy efficient technologies targeted by ESKOM and the DME and DPE is heat pump water heaters. Heat pump water heaters provide an alternative to solar water heating that has been promoted widely. Heat pump water heaters have been implemented successfully at a number of centralized water heating installations, such as those typically found in the commercial building market (hotels, hospitals, university residences, etc.). ESKOM has also supported heat pump technology in the past, funding several Demand Side Management research and demonstration projects.
