Brief History
- M-Tech was founded in 1987 as a consulting engineering partnership focussing on specialized consultation work in the fields of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, computational mechanics and thermal-fluid systems design as well as the development of the advanced thermal-fluid network code Flownet.
- In 1991 the owners of M-Tech started the company Enerflow Technologies (Pty) Ltd. that would later merge with M-Tech. Enerflow Technologies focussed on the design and manufacturing of heat pumps for the large scale heating (and/or cooling) of water for buildings such as hotels, old age homes and university residences.
- In 1993 Rolls Royce ordered Flownet from M-Tech. The order was later upgraded to a company wide license.
- In 1997 M-Tech became involved with the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) project winning a contract to develop a dynamic simulation model of the complete PBMR plant based on Flownet.
- In 1999 the PBMR company placed an order on M-Tech to redevelop and extend Flownet according to standards in the nuclear industry. The redeveloped code was renamed Flownex and first released in 2001.
- In 2000 M-Tech was incorporated as a private company with limited liability and the name changed to M-Tech Industrial (Pty) Ltd.
- In August 2002 Enerflow Technologies that would later merge with M-Tech won the coveted Eskom η Award for the best energy efficient design in the commercial sector.
- In 2002 M-Tech played a key role in the design and construction of the Pebble Bed Micro Model (PBMM) that successfully demonstrated the operability of the closed three-shaft recuperated Brayton cycle. This cycle is similar to the one initially proposed for the PBMR.
- In 2005 the company Enerflow Technologies (Pty) Ltd. merged with M-Tech.
- In 2005 M-Tech won a contract from the PBMR company for the design and construction of the PBMR High Pressure Test Unit (HPTU)
- In 2006 M-Tech won a contract from the PBMR company for the design and construction of the PBMR High Temperature Test Unit (HTTU)
- In 2006 M-Tech won an award from the Innovation Fund to develop an Industrial Simulator that uses Flownex as its thermal hydraulic solver.
- In 2006 M-Tech was appointed as member of the Westinghouse consortium that won the tender for the pre-engineering design of the USA Next Generation Nuclear Power Plant (NGNP).
- In March 2007 the Royal Bafokeng obtained a 25,1% share in M-Tech.
- In 2007 M-Tech achieved a Level 3 BBBEE (Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment) rating.
- In 2007 M-Tech won a tender for provision of Owners Engineering services to Eskom as part of the Eskom’s Panel B.
